Royal Tunbridge Wells
Royal Tunbridge Wells is a town in West Kent, on the northern edge of the Weald. In general usagethe appellation 'Royal' is dropped from its title. It's boundaries lie across the border of Kent with
East Sussex. It has a population of approximately 56,500. The town is the administrative centre of
Tunbridge Wells Borough. The town came into being as a spa in Georgian times and had its heyday as such
in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, when the popularity of sea-bathing took away much of its
clientele. Today the town is a relatively affluent place, within commuting distance of London. The town
is twinned with Wiesbaden in Germany. In 2006 it celebrated its 400th anniversary.
